NaNoWriMo: An Epilogue

Filed under: nanowrimo — Ten @ 3:52 am

Another Nano-related post, you say. Never fear, I’m sure I’d shut up about this after a few days. But today, I am suffering withdrawal effects.

So, I passed the finish line. And all I have is this lousy T-shirt. Damn. Still, NaNoWriMo was a huge learning experience for me. I learned a whole lot of stuff that I didn’t know before: Like my inner editor is a crappy and grumpy editor. (I shipped her to Antarctica, but it didn’t work.), I LOVE drama cliche. (I dream of writing a story with amnesia incorporated in the plot.), Fiction writing is fun! (My last fiction work was in high school.), Writing a bad novel is hard work. (Blood, sweat, and tears, man.), Making up characters is fun. But half the time, you can’t get them to do what you like. (They instigate mini-rebellion.), Procrastinating is fun. (Well, I knew that before.)

When I signed up for Nano, I didn’t plan to blog about my progress every single day! I didn’t even have an entry for Day 1. It was supposed to be mini-updates. But before I knew it, it was all I talk about. This might be the only time I’ve written something for 30 consecutive days. I don’t think I’ve even done that on my anime blog.

Just to give you an idea of my, ahem, Nano novel, here is the basic info:

Genre: Contemporary Romance. You wouldn’t believe how much I want to be a romance author. Honestly.
Title: Song for Caitlyn. Hee. Cliche, yes. Finding Home was the original title (and I liked that better) but the story won’t connect with the name.
Word Count: 50,260. I’ve said this before but I like to mention just because.

Music(while writing the darn thing): Mostly classical music. Here’s the playlist. The ones I singled out were in another playlist (a special one) for a much bigger push to write.
a. Compilation of Classical Romance (performed by various orchestras) - favorite tracks: 1. Romance Impromptu, 2. Rhapsody On a Theme of Paganini (18th Variation) 14. Symphony No. 2 “Romantic”: II.
b. Closer (Josh Groban) - favorite tracks: 3. Mi Mancherai (with Joshua Bell) 11. Hymne a l’amour
c. Luciano Pavarotti ~ The Best - favorite tracks: CD1 6. La Bohème: “Che Gelida Manina” 7. La Bohème: “O Soave Fanciulla” 9. Martha (Opera in 4 Acts): “M’appari” Andrea Chénier: “Come un Bel Dì Di Maggio”; CD2 13. Caruso 15. Ti adoro
d. Voices of the Violin (Joshua Bell) - favorite tracks: 2. Ave Maria 11. Beau soir 16. Après un Rêve, Op. 7, No. 1 (Alternate Version)

So yeah, the above were my weapons of choice. But yesterday, I actually played So Close (Jon McLaughling) from Enchanted all night. I’m in-love with the song. Seriously. I have played it 80 times since last night. Another day, I played this Filipino song called Pagbibiyang Muli (Erik Santos) the whole time I was writing one chapter.

The Story: Girl meets boy. They fall in love. They break up. They meet again. Something like that. Throw in a half-duck outfit, a mad Irish-esque family, an artsy town/island, fourth of July, food, and lots of singing and dancing. Possibly PG-13. I couldn’t go through a sex scene without laughing. Or barfing.

Favorite lines: (Silly talk between MC. The FMC tries to explain a feeling of a song to MMC.)

“Like red roses and rabbits out in a hat?” Cal asked.

“More like forget-me-nots and baby’s breath and fairies dancing on a full moon,” she said.

It’s silly but I don’t know why I like them.

Sigh.

I’ll miss the frenzy.
