New Year’s Resolution #3

Find palatable programming.

Despite my position on reality tv, I came out of the closet and declared my enthusiasm for Dancing with the Stars, (Don’t be hating.) Dance Wars, A spin-off of DWTS premiered this year, and I had reason to be interested. So I watched. Not the first episode but the second one. I forgot to record the premiere– Nah. Actually, I forgot that it was airing this year. I don’t care much about the show to set the DVR. But when I came home tonight, someone recorded the second episode. So I thought to give it a try.

Dance Wars reminded me why I detest American Idol. Soulless performances. Then again, I’ve only heard a few bars from each performer. Maybe they’ll get, um, better… To be fair, two struck me as WOW. I LOVE Mariel’s voice. Some kind of awesome. And it’s not just because she Fil-Am. (I have moments of country pride, but that’s another matter.) Her dancing is so-so, but her vocal acrobatics are powerful. I’d love to hear a solo. I also enjoy Alyssa’s singing. Fa-boo. There’s something about her that really grabbed my attention. Carrie-ann had said, Alyssa has sparkle. And Carrie-Ann is right.

As for the rest of them, they’re blah.

Will I be following the rest of the season? Probably not. The group performances channeled high school variety shows featuring girl/boy band acts. Eww. Then again, the shallower side of me says yay. Yay means two names. Zack and Qis. Zack is boy-next door with a hard body called delish, and Qis is liquid chocolate eyes, white smile, and a hot mocha latte on a winter night.

Hm. Maybe I should rethink about this abandoning the show thing…

P.S. This is what happens when there’s nothing good on TV. Note to studio heads: YOU NEED WRITERS!! (On the bright side, Tony Bourdain’s No Reservation is on!!)

New Year’s Resolution #2

Never read another chapter of Nana. Ever. Again.

Yeah, yeah. Nana is soapy drama, romance, and tear-jerking what-not. It should’ve been in my league. At first, it was addictive. Then, it started to bug. Then, it ANNOYED me. I stopped reading Nana after the chapter where Hachi found about her pregnancy. And I vowed not to touch any more updates. I was successful… Until today.

I blame onemanga.com, really. I was just browsing and reading random chapters. And I accidentally-on-purpose clicked on the latest Nana chapter. Wrong move. I have no desire to read the subplots in between newest addition and the last chapter I’ve read. No sirree. Unfortunately, one click brought back my harsh feelings on the subject. Hachi is one frakkin’ TSTL character. I want to bitch-slap her until she dislodges the cobwebs in her brain. Argh. The subject almost rivals my disgust for KimiNozo. (Don’t get me started with that spineless Takayuki and that annoying Haruka. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I have bear some fondness to Mitsuki even with her questionable actions. But that’s for another discussion.)

As much as I respect Ai Yazawa’s amazing artwork (gotta respect the talent), I am starting to question her ability as a storyteller. I understand the need for flawed characters. But not flaws like stupidity and lack of common sense. Again, argh. If you see me as I am typing this, you’d see a lot of huffing and eye-rolling.

P.S. I think Kagen no Tsuki is by far Ai Yazawa’s best work to date.

Waking up early.

I am a sleep slut. I need 8 full hours of Zzzzs to function. Or so my body believes. But I think I can function with less hours of dosing.
