TV bits: Fall Preview ‘06

Filed under: talk, tv bits — Ten @ 3:49 am

Four things I’d like to watch next year.

Heroes. Pros. Plot centric. Fast-paced. Awesome cliffhangers. Cons. Plot-holes galore. Mediocre dialogue. (The writers have this one direction going from A to E that sometimes they don’t even bother following B, C, and D.)

Studio 60. Pros. Sorkinese on late night TV. Strong and intelligent dialogue. Cons. Smug-ish. Mostly unfunny sketches. (Sorkin airs too much of his personal grudges in Studio 60. He needs a therapist.)

Ugly Betty. Pros. Evil Mark. Snarky Amanda. Bitchy Wil. Adorable Betty. And yummy Henry. Cons. Cheating Walter. SofiaxDaniel = Ick. (Boo to the Salma mini-arc. And Walter is so not working.)

Drive. Pros. N/A. Cons. N/A. (With Tim Minear at the helm, I am truly looking forward to this show. Yes, I heart Tim.)

Ah. I can’t believe I haven’t watched a single episode of Veronica Mars this season. The sacrilege of not knowing the epic romance of Veronica and Logan. Oh, Jason Dohring, forgive me.

Anthony Bourdain might be old to be my dad but boy, that dude is hawt. He has this sexy rebel, leather-jacket-wearing thing going on. He’s hilarious too.

TV bits: The Powers that be

Filed under: talk, tv bits — Ten @ 12:00 am

I’ve been thinking long and hard at my fellow anime enthusiast, hopeless sensei’s what if scenario. But I applied it to American prime time shows.

Actually, if I had the power to wield executive freedom in major studios. I’d revive cancelled shows I loved, say, Firefly, Wonderfalls, and Angel. Ahhh. But not only that, I’d try to banish American Idol and the Simple Life to oblivion. Clay Aiken makes me go insane and Paris Hilton is just icky. I’d make Jessica Simpson look smarter when she had that insipid show in MTV. Although, I wonder if that’s possible. I would’ve manipulated the judges into voting off the “Mother” in Project Runway’s first season. I wanted the very pretty gay guy to be part of the final three. I’d have Rachel and Joey end up with each other in Friends. Ross could rot in the divorce circuit for all I care. I would’ve covered up Robert Downey Jr.’s drug charges so that he wouldn’t have been fired in Ally McBeal. The final season sucked terribly but the one prior to that was wonderful. The unrepentant druggie can sizzle up chemistry even with the undernourished Callista.

Also included in my list is a non-firing of Shannen Doherty in Charmed. Me likey Prue. I never warmed up to series again after she left. I’d have Dawson die instead of Jen in the series finale. Mr. Forehead’s cuteness diminished after years of whining and angsting. Oh, and I’d marry Joshua Jackson in a jiffy.

This incomplete list will have a part two in another time not-so-soon.

errata: I was referring to this post instead of the one linked above. Oops. ^^;

TV bits: A star is born

Filed under: talk, tv bits — Ten @ 1:45 am

Oh, shit. I can’t believe that the movie “Bituin Walang Ningning” is being adapted into a drama. This is seriously a ZOMG moment for me. I will definitely hunt down the episodes… Even if it kills me, damnit.

“Bituin Walang Ningning” literally means “a star that doesn’t shine”. It sounds poetic in Tagalog, though.

TV bits: Comedy in Fall

Filed under: talk, tv bits — Ten @ 9:55 pm

One of my favorite television writer, Jane Espenson, has a new gig. It’s Andy Barker P.I.

Andy Richter stars in this new comedy series. And it get’s better. Conan O’brien is one of the Executive Producers. Whee.

This might be very interesting.
